Position: Maintenance Technicial - Union Position
Salary: $16.54 per hour, Pay grade 4 in addition to a comprehensive benefit package.
Hours: 40 hours per week; 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and weekends &
holidays as assigned/needed by the Building and Grounds Director

Under the supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Director,
performs a wide range of maintenance tasks necessary to ensure that the county’s buildings, facilities and
equipment operate safely and efficiently. Incumbents perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks
including plumbing, electric, carpentry, painting and plastering. Performs seasonal tasks associated with
the maintenance of outside building and grounds, such as lawn care and snow removal and assists in
- Education: This job requires knowledge normally acquired from a specialized training beyond high
school such as that acquired in up to one year of college, technical, vocational or trade school. Course
work would typically include subjects such as structural blueprint reading, applied electricity, electric
motor maintenance, heating and cooling fundamentals and so forth.
- Experience: Three years of experience in maintaining buildings, grounds and related equipment.
HVAC experience preferred.
- Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, e.g.,
occupational health and safety, handling of hazardous materials, building and fire codes is desirable.
Skills in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and masonry (i.e., semi-skilled), is required. Ability to
operate electrical and manual tools is required. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic
drawings is required. A valid State of Michigan driver’s license is required.
- Physical Requirements: May be exposed to moderate to extremely disagreeable working conditions
at times. Requires significant physical exertion with bending, climbing and lifting. May be required to
respond to emergencies on a 24 hour basis to properly address mechanical system issues.
