Hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.). (Salaried position may be required to work more than 40 hours/week with evening meetings monthly)

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Assistant County Administrator, serves as chief accounting officer of the county. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that a system of accounting is installed and properly kept in all county functions, as well as providing administrative support and direction to other departments regarding fiscal management and financial controls. Plans, organizes and directs the County budgeting methods and process, auditing and analyzing information for budget proposals, and carrying out various tasks related to administration of the budget. Analyzes, investigates, and proposes to the County Administrator and the Board, plans and programs to better serve the financial interests of county functions.

Employment Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Five years of progressively more responsible accounting experience which includes experience with budgeting, auditing, payroll, and accounts payable, preferably some of which was for a municipal government. Prior supervisory experience required as is proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and financial software.
  • Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: CPA designation is desirable. A Michigan Vehicle Operator’s license.
